The Great Lakes Scrip Center was founded in 1994 by two families. Their intention was to serve non-profit organizations and retailers with a creative, new way of fundraising. Since that time it has helped retailers increase their sales and has raised more than $153 million for non-profit organization.

Scrip works as "substitute money." It can be used for everyday purchases, such as food, clothing, home items and even entertainment. Each time a purchase is made using Scrip, revenue is earned for your non-profit organization.

Scrip is issued by hundreds of local and national retailers. These are retailers where many families already shop.

This is how Scrip works for OLVCS -
  • GLSC (Great Lakes Scrip Center) buys Scrip from retailers
  • OLVCS buys Scrip from GLSC at a discount
  • OLVCS resells the certificates to our members for the full face value
  • Our families patronize the retailers supporting our Scrip program, thus providing revenue for OLVCS
  • the bulk of the discount that OLVCS receives from buying scrip from GLSC is retained by our school

Scrip is effective because families are already making these purchases. It is estimated that 150 families can spend between one and two MILLION dollars per year on food, clothing, etc. If these same families used Scrip, they could raise as much as $40,000 to $80,000 per year for their school.
